BART Lines Teen Poetry Contest 2024

With programs such as BART Lines, BART wants to get people excited about transit and emphasize the variety of ways you can use it and the places you can take it. By uplifting our riders' ideas and voices with BART Lines, we are underlining our belief that youth – their opinions, ideas, and goals – matter, for one day soon, they will be the leaders, decisionmakers, and visionaries that decide the future of public transportation, and therefore, the future of our region.

The theme is “Bay is Home.” We want to read poems related to the Bay Area. Your submission might describe a location – somewhere you take BART, for example – or maybe a specific spot inspired the piece. With this theme, we’re asking: How do the many places, people, and aspects of the region make the Bay home?

Open to teens (13-19 as of 3/8/2024) from the five BART counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara. This contest is limited to the first 300 applications, so don't delay. Set up you account now - you will be notified as the number of applications reaches 225 applicants.

ART in BART

BART values enhancing the rider and community experience though the arts. From the beginning, BART included art in its stations from large-scale architecturally integrated works, to smaller community-based projects. The BART art collection is nearly 50 artworks including murals, mosaics, sculptures, glass, and relief work. Yet more than permanent artworks are found in BART. Musicians, poets, puppeteers, dancers, writers, cartoonists, and dramatists add to the BART experience in creative ways
